Hello!

I'm Matt Fudemoto, a tabletop and video game programmer and systems designer. I'm currently based in Ottawa, Ontario where I completed an Advanced Diploma in Game Development through Algonquin College.

Games have always been a huge part of my life. I believe games have a unique storytelling power and the capacity to connect people from all walks of life.

Outside of work, you can usually find me reading, practicing kendo, playing music, and, of course, gaming.

Design Philosophy

Game development is the process of designing systems that turn ideas into experiences. Here are some of my core design values.

CREATIVITY

  • I see creativity as the ability to harness outside-the-box, associative thinking - making connections between seemingly unrelated things and combining them to solve a problem or tell a story. Creativity is also a human quality: My design work and writing are 100% human-made without the use of generative AI.

ACCESSIBILITY

  • Making games accessible to a wide range of audiences is incredibly important, and it can also be a fun design challenge. Accessible design invites creative problem-solving and encourages communication between designers and diverse groups of gamers.

COLLABORATION

  • Game development can be difficult, but with a supportive team it can also be very rewarding. I believe in communicating clearly, honouring commitments, and approaching challenges with kindness and respect. On the technical side, I keep my notes organized and naming conventions consistent to support integration with teammates' work.
