An Inconvenient Inventory

Tabletop RPG Adventure - for D&D 5th Edition

Role: Gameplay and Systems Designer; Writer

Welcome to Arcane Logistics Inc., one of the largest and most successful magical shipping companies in the realm.

Whether through ambition, desperation, questionable life choices, or a simple lack of alternatives, you have found employment as a Warehouse Retrieval Associate (Temporary).

Near the end of another mind-numbingly dull shift, disaster strikes as dangerous and unstable magic items are scattered across the warehouse.

You and your coworkers must race against time to prevent the warehouse's contents - and your jobs - from going up in smoke.

A 3-4 hour adventure for 1st and 2nd level characters, optimized for three to four players.

DeSIGN Process

Start to finish, this adventure went through several stages:

  • Pen-and-paper brainstorming, experimenting, initial writing
  • Digital design document, which goes through several rounds of edits
  • Playtesting - this adventure was tested with a mixed group of players, one with extensive D&D experience, two with some experience, and one with no experience.
  • Iteration: Continue refining digital document based on playtest feedback
  • Formatting and final editing: The finished version of the adventure conforms to the Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition style guide, so players who are already familiar with D&D should find it easy to read and navigate. The document template used is Laura Hirsbrunner's design.
